Earlier this week, RCR made an announcement regarding the signing of Hill to a contract extension for multiple years. This extension is for the purpose of competing in the Xfinity Series alongside the organization.
Hill, 29, has six career wins, including four this year, and remains in contention to win the regular season championship with RCR’s No. 21 Chevrolet team.
During an interview on Saturday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, Hill verified that his recent contract extension does not automatically prevent him from advancing to the Cup Series.
“I cannot reword”
Currently, the arrangement is set for Xfinity for the upcoming two years. However, it is important to note that circumstances may alter and consequently impact the terms of the contract. It is possible that by the conclusion of the following year, we will have gained more clarity regarding our future direction.
“I genuinely enjoy participating in the Xfinity Series and racing with the Xfinity cars. They provide a great deal of enjoyment while driving. Currently, I am content with my progress and do not feel the need to hastily transition to the Cup series. I am thoroughly enjoying my current situation.”

Hill, who has achieved eight victories in the Truck series and five wins in the ARCA East series throughout his career, mentioned receiving multiple offers from other teams in recent months. This is the reason behind his decision to extend his contract with RCR.
“I have engaged in discussions with numerous teams regarding the possibility of participating in Cup racing, and I have come extremely close to doing so,” he expressed. “However, Richard (Childress, the team owner) has presented significant challenges due to his character and our past collaborations throughout last season and this season.”
“I am extremely loyal, sometimes to a fault. There are many aspects beyond simply racing the car that convinced me to stay with RCR and continue progressing with them. This ultimately made it an effortless choice to remain here and maintain the momentum we have built.”
Hoping to run more Cup races while an Xfinity regular
Hill desires to continue competing in the Xfinity Series for the foreseeable future, but he also looks forward to occasional chances to participate in Cup races. He has already had the opportunity to do so with both RCR and Beard Motorsports.
In his Cup debut last season with RCR, he has participated in four races and achieved his best result of 18th place at Michigan.
“I am considering various possibilities to participate in a few Cup races. It would be fantastic if I could compete in five, six, or even seven Cup races next year,” Hill expressed. “However, at the moment, I do not have any plans confirmed for the upcoming season or the one after in the Cup series.”
“If we decide to participate in Cup races, whether it’s with Beard Motorsports or any other team, I would be interested in attempting races on mile-and-a-half tracks, as well as short tracks. I would like to gradually explore these types of races and gauge my level of enjoyment.”
