Alonso achieved that ranking in Hungary during the previous weekend, coming in one place ahead of his teammate Lance Stroll.
On the initial lap, the Spaniard reached a position as high as seventh. However, he was overtaken by Sergio Perez and George Russell, who were making progress after struggling in the qualifying sessions.
Alonso, who achieved six top-three finishes in the initial eight races of 2023, acknowledges that Aston has fallen behind in the rankings, as McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari consistently lead the group pursuing Red Bull.
“Yes, I believe it is,” he responded when questioned about whether the outcome in Hungary was the most favorable he could have attained.
I believe we were not sufficiently fast to confront those ahead of us, and we lacked any potential dangers from behind. Therefore, we obtained three points, securing the ninth and tenth positions as the highest achievement today.
“I believe we have encountered some difficulties in the past two races. In Silverstone, the presence of the safety car assisted us in securing a seventh-place finish, slightly surpassing our usual performance.”
“I am unable to reword.”
Alonso acknowledged his surprise at the consistent pecking order observed across two distinct tracks.
“Yes, to some extent,” he stated. “We anticipated facing some difficulties in Silverstone, but we were hopeful of being slightly more competitive in Budapest. Unfortunately, that was not the outcome. Therefore, we will assess the situation and aim to make a strong comeback in Spa next week.”

“We must observe various aspects to gain a deeper comprehension of the car’s current performance compared to the start of the season. This includes evaluating the number of upgrades we have introduced in relation to our main rivals, as well as optimizing our understanding of the new tires.”
“We all have equal access to them, therefore we simply need to improve our efforts.”
Alonso stated that it was uncertain whether Aston was merely falling behind in the race of progress.
“It’s challenging to determine,” he expressed. “I imply, for each race, we yearn to comprehend and have numerous inquiries, yet we are never certain about the precise root of it.”
Hulkenberg and the Haas team achieved a surprising fourth place in qualifying in Austria, catching us all off guard. Similarly, Williams displayed remarkable speed in Silverstone, leaving us all astonished. Alfa Romeo also impressed with their impressive pace here, taking us by surprise once again.
However, during the race, the situation usually evens out and the larger teams tend to finish ahead. Unfortunately, we currently find ourselves towards the bottom of those top teams. Therefore, our goal is to regain our position at the forefront of that group.
“We make an effort to contribute like everyone else. Therefore, it is not a situation where everyone completes the development and simply waits until the following year. We will all strive to bring things.”
Occasionally, certain things exceed our expectations, while others fall short. Hopefully, our next move will be a positive one.
