Perez made an impressive comeback from the ninth position on the grid, making several important overtakes. This allowed him to join Max Verstappen on the podium, as Red Bull achieved a remarkable feat by securing their 12th consecutive victory and breaking a record that stood for 35 years.
After completing a series of five races where he began outside the top 10 on the grid, the Mexican driver’s impressive performance finally emerged. During this period, he only managed to secure one podium finish at the Red Bull Ring.
Daniel Ricciardo’s comeback to the racing team of Red Bull’s sister squad, AlphaTauri, has been widely seen as an opportunity to assess his performance for a potential return to the main team. However, Red Bull has publicly expressed their support for Perez, who is under contract until 2024.
Horner commended Perez for delivering an outstanding performance in today’s race during his conversation with Sky Sports.
Horner expressed admiration for his courageous comeback and impressive overtaking.
He was moving quickly, effortlessly overtaking cars and leaving behind both Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri. His strategy was impeccable, and he displayed exceptional performance today.
Participating in such a competition instills a significant level of self-assurance.
“I think his overtaking, the bravery that he showed, for me that was really a statement drive today to say ‘look, don’t write me off’.”

Horner also pondered over the remarkable achievement of the team, which exceeded McLaren’s 11 wins in 1988. This victory streak began in the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In 2023, Red Bull has maintained an undefeated record, as Verstappen emerged victorious in nine out of the 11 grands prix held so far, while Perez secured first place in the remaining two races.
Horner said: “As a young kid I remember watching the McLarens of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna achieving that incredible feat, to think we’ve now bettered that…
“They formed an exceptional group, Ron Dennis served as an exceptional team leader, and the fact that we have now surpassed that achievement is truly remarkable. This accomplishment is a result of the immense dedication and effort put in by the entire team in Budapest, Milton Keynes, and all those working behind the scenes. It holds great significance and will be cherished deeply.”
