Smith, who drives the No. 16 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing, just edged John Hunter Nemechek to win the pole for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Smith’s lap speed averaged at 126.291 mph, which allowed him to maintain his lead against Nemechek (126.123 mph). Nemechek, who races for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 20 Toyota, is currently tied with Austin Hill for the highest number of wins this season.

Smith has secured the pole position for the second time in a row. He previously led the race at Atlanta last weekend and this marks his third pole position of the 2023 season.

“I am experiencing New Hampshire for the first time and I am already fond of this place,” Smith expressed. “I am excited about the possibility of delivering an impressive performance from the front row. Let’s wait and see what tomorrow brings.”

Smith is currently ranked fifth in the series standings, but he hasn’t achieved a top-five finish since his win on April 1 in Richmond, Virginia.

Josh Berry finished in third place for the race, Justin Allgaier came in fourth, and Brandon Jones completed the top-five positions.

Completing the top-10 starting lineup are Cole Custer, Sammy Smith, Hill, Austin Dillon and Sam Mayer.
